Spotlight on the West

In this short post we highlight tonight’s migration forecast in the West. Conditions are favorable for movements from the Desert Southwest north and west along the Pacific Coast into Washington state. A high pressure center over the Great Basin will keep skies clear and facilitate movements to its south and west. Meanwhile, in the Pacific Northwest, a frontal boundary approaching from the west will bring changeable conditions but southerly flow that will spawn flights in areas free of precipitation. Stay tuned to our live migration map┬áto see what happens this evening! And more important, go birding on Monday night and Tuesday morning and tell us what you find by submitting your observations to eBird!

Many species have been on this move, and below we highlight two, Yellow Warbler and Black-headed Grosbeak, that many observers in the West may be or soon will be seeing.

Black-headed Grosbeak. Josh Gatsch/Macaulay Library. eBird S44316264.
