Wondering what species are migrating through right now? Check out our analysis for the past 7 days.
Arrows show wind speed and direction (arrow points in the direction to which wind is blowing) 100 m above ground level. Areas with southerly winds are colored red; northerly winds colored blue. Accumulated precipitation (in 6 hour intervals) is green, outlined by white. Broadly speaking, areas of the map in blue will experience conditions that are favorable for migration, and areas where blue and green (and red and blue) intersect and overlap may experience migrant concentrations and fallouts as migrants interact with precipitation.
We use data collected by eBird users help make more accurate forecasts. If you enjoy the predictions contained in these posts, please consider submitting your own bird sightings to eBird to even further improve the content. Every observation counts, whether it be a single bird at a feeder in your backyard, or an entire day spent in a national park. To get started with eBird, head on over to the site !

Quick Links to Regions
Upper Midwest and Northeast
With the passage of a frontal boundary and the arrival of another, the region will see many areas with moderate, heavy and even very heavy flights for the weekend followed by a period of much reduced migration. By Monday the flights will be restricted to New England, primarily, as southerly flow and warmer temperatures build in behind high pressure moving east. Flights will continue in New England into the middle of the work week, but by Wednesday night almost the entire region will be under the influence of southerly flow. Migration will be light and scattered, with some higher densities where winds are light, particularly along the coast. The period ends with the arrival of another disturbance moving across the Great Lakes, bringing a new wave of moderate to heavy flights to the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes.

Gulf Coast and Southeast
Moderate to very heavy flights will grace the region to begin the period, with the extent of these flights gradually shifting to the east through the weekend and into the early part of the work week. By Tuesday favorable conditions persist only in Florida, where moderate to locally heavy flights will continue. But the remainder of the region will see primarily southerly flow and limited movements in most areas. Note, however, that marginal conditions along the Gulf Coast may allow for circum-Gulf flights of moderate to heavy intensity, so birders should watch for these conditions to develop (i.e. easterly flow at the coast, facilitating westerly movements). Thursday and Friday see a return of some favorable conditions primarily east of the Appalachians and in Florida, where moderate to heavy movements will take flight.

Great Plains
Moderate to heavy flights that will begin the weekend in favorable conditions will quickly dissipate by Sunday as unfavorable southerly flow returns. Other than localized pockets of marginal or favorable conditions that will host moderate flights, most of the region will see primarily light movements through Thursday as southerly flow persists. A burst of cooler air and northerly flow is forecast for the end of the period, suggesting a pulse of moderate to heavy flights are likely; however, the extent of these conditions will not be region wide, and migration may be similarly localized.

West
A patchwork of favorable conditions in the northern portions of the region begin the period, and light to moderate flights will be scattered across the northern half of the West through Sunday night. A disturbance then makes its way through the Pacific Northwest, and generally unfavorable conditions persist across the region with its arrival. Some areas of the northern Rockies will experience continued light to moderate flights, but most of the West will experience much reduced migrant activity aloft. The end of the week sees a slow build of marginal and favorable conditions for movements in the Desert Southwest and California, and for the last part of the period these areas will experience light to locally moderate flights.
