Tropical Storm Beta approaches Texas

Andrew Farnsworth The Cornell Lab Sep 21, 2020

Beta is currently a tropical storm, deteriorating to a tropical depression in the next 36-48 hours. Current forecasts predict landfall on the central Texas coast. Note, Beta may be a weaker storm, but all tropical weather systems can be extremely dangerous; so above all else safety is the top priority. Birders should be watchful for Gulf of Mexico seabirds (of course, Sooty Tern and Magnificent Frigatebird among others) as well as downing of overland migrants such as shorebirds and some aerialists (e.g. swallows). The Upper Texas Coast will see impacts of avian entrainment and displacement from Monday through Wednesday, whereas areas further inland into southwestern and central Louisiana. Stay tuned to the live tracker to see observations as they occur.
